How to make your tile flooring special

How to make your tile flooring special

Tile flooring can give any room architectural interest and a distinctive style. Not just for the kitchen or bath floors, these pieces come in a large assortment of designs, styles, shapes, and sizes that can be mixed and matched to create unique, personal designs. Tile is as functional as aesthetic, durable, easy to clean, and lasts for decades.

Not all ceramic tile is the same

When you walk into our Orlando tile stores, you'll be blown away by the sheer volume of colors, designs, shapes, and sizes. Keep in mind, though, that some are better for specific installations than others. For example, they are meant for different levels of foot traffic, wall or floor use, and indoor or outdoor application. Read labels thoroughly and tell your retailer exactly how you plan to use them because the right or wrong type will impact your remodeling project.

Types of ceramic tile

A ceramic is anything made of clay, even if the composition also includes sand and glass. That makes porcelain a type of ceramic, and since it's heavier, denser, and waterproof, it can withstand the busiest rooms like the kitchen. Porcelain can also be used outside.

The 4 X 4 squares are thinner and, when glazed, are waterproof with a rigid outer surface. The highly designed pieces are best for indoor use only, on moderate foot trafficked floors, backsplashes, accent walls, fireplace surrounds, and shower walls.  Mosaics are small, highly decorative, and often used as floor tile accents.  Subway tiles can be used on indoor floors on low-traffic surfaces, such as the bedroom.

With their rustic reddish-brown color, Terracotta bricks are durable and porous, which can easily be handled with sealing. Non-ceramic tiles include cement, metal, glass, and stone, including marble, granite, limestone, travertine, and more.
